Ask President Hart:
How will labor unrest affect students?
AFSCME Local Union 1723, the union which represents a wide range of Temple support staff, including advisers, financial aid specialists, and clerical workers, has been without a contract for nearly a year, and the University administration has not negotiated in good faith. In addition, the contract of TAUP, the union which represents professors and faculty members, expired on October 15th, and little progress has been made since negotiations began in June.

These employees are the workers who deal most directly with students. Their working conditions are our learning conditions.

At a rally on October 14th, AFSCME, TAUP, SLAP, and other supporters demand that President Hart and the Board of Trustees treat workers fairly.

ASK PRESIDENT HART:

• How will labor unrest, and an otherwise dissatisfied workforce, affect our learning environment?

• What would labor unrest, like a strike, mean for my ability to graduate on time?

• How would a merit pay plan, like the one her administration proposes, affect the academic
integrity of our professors and staff?

• Why has our tuition gone up, but the salaries of our faculty and staff begun to fall behind
   inflation?

• What is her opinion of unions and the right of workers to collectively bargain with her
   administration?

• What is she doing to make sure these contracts are settled fairly?

Temple SLAP supports social and economic justice causes and workers rights on campus and throughout Philadelphia. For more information, or to get involved, contact Wes Weaver at 717-917-7795 or wesweaver@temple.edu
