City Contract Update Hotline 2-26-2010

You have reached the AFSCME D.C. 47 City contract update hotline. Today is Friday, February 26.

Mayor Nutter and The City of Philadelphia have planned no new negotiation meetings since the City last canceled a meeting in December 2009. We are now waiting for the Mayor to contact us.

The Mayor is set to make his 2011 budget address on March 4. Union leaders have already been doing significant research and work in preparation of budget issues that may arise. We expect to provide testimony at City Council, and we will be planning other membership actions to advocate for a fair budget that protects public services and employees.

D.C. 47 was recently successful in winning its members E-time (excused time) for the two days that the Mayor closed City facilities to the public, February 10 & 11, due to a significant snow fall. Originally, the City encouraged non-essential City employees to use their own paid time off to stay home during the snow storm. District Council 47 immediately fought with the City and successfully won E-time for all non-essential D.C. 47 members for those two snow days.

This message will be updated whenever there are any significant developments in contract negotiations.
