phone will be added to the back loading dock door. The quote

3. Bob E. has received the ordered PPE signs. Some signs
have already been updated around the building and he will
complete the project shortly.
4. Bob E. reported there would be a BLS blood drive on Friday,
Dec 12th .
5. Bob E. reported that nearly all of the items have been
address on the L&I fire safety and hazardous chemical
storage inspection conducted July 11th 2003. The only outstanding
deficiency is procurement of a lock box, which needs to contain
specific information about the CLF for the fire department.
An updated floor plan is also required and in the works.
There is no scheduled date yet for the re-inspection.
6. Safety Training Items,
· Bob D. has
to renew the contract for fire extinguisher
training.
· RTK training is being scheduled by Bob D. and will occur very soon.
· Bob D. reported CPR/First Aid training will be given by Harold.
7. Bob E. reported that
the ERT still needs to get back to some regular
meetings. Bob E. will contact Bill Wankoff
to ask about the ERT training. Bob D. provided
Bob E. with the name of a contact for the
SCBA training.
8. Cindy R reported that the November audits were still coming
in. Custodial, NE, SRA and Organics have not sent their audits
in on time. A reminder for the SRA group to inspect room
140, which they have taken over. Also everyone should use
the latest version of the checklists.
These are found at P:\Monthly Safety Checklists (Current).
9. The fire extinguishers in the CLF were inspected in Oct
2003. New replacements are on order and when they arrive
the servicing company will be called out again to inspect
them.
10. Bob E. will remind Geoff B. to review the newly revised
draft edition of the BLS Safety Manual.
11. Bob E. reported that there is no new information to report
on lunchtime seminars and none will be scheduled due to the
holidays.
12. Bob E. asked if anyone had any information on the CSE
program given by Jim D'Agostino. There was no new information
to add by anyone.
13. Brian S had contacted Bob D. of the Safety Office to
remove old safety supplies from the closet. The supplies
have not been used in years and Bob D. will take and hopefully
find a place for them.
14. Bob D. reported on some items found from the annual safety
audit that was conducted the second week of November. Two
labs were inspected for safety deficiencies, Organics and
Inorganics, he will be returning to finish his inspection
at a later date. Some deficiencies that were found are,
· Chemicals
improperly stored.
· Access panels removed causing electrical hazards.
· Doors propped open.
· Lack of safety eyewear in use, and proper safety eyewear.
· Compressed gas cylinders loose
· Cleaning of dishes in the lab sink.
· Eating in the lab.
· Hood sash doors open past top mark.
· Improper storage of acids and bases.
· Missing ceiling tiles.
· Portable heaters.
· Loose phone box.
The Safety Office will
issue a formal report shortly. Mike I. reminded
the committee that the BLS Safety manual
requires anyone working with solutions that
are below pH 5 or above pH 9 to be wearing
splash goggles.
15. There were scheduling problems with the contract lab
that was to do the mold survey. Bob D. will arrange for them
to sample random and targeted areas at the CLF.
16. Alicia E. reported there was a strong odor of sulfide
throughout the entire building on November 28. She identified
this as sulfide since she had been working with the sulfide
on Wednesday November 26 the day before Thanksgiving. On
that day the standard broke and she placed it in the fume
hood with the sash at the proper height of four inches. Upon
returning to work on Friday the odor was detected. This raised
concern around the table of how a chemical contained inside
a fume hood could infiltrate the whole building.
17. Brian S. reported on the emergency light testing he performed
on the CLF emergency lights. There are about 30% of the emergency
lights inoperative. A work order will be issued to building
maintenance to fix this problem. The complete report is found
in "P:\Safety\emergency lighting.xls".
