1. The
minutes of the 6/5/2002 meeting were accepted
as written.
2. Jim Coyle reported
the next purchases for the remaining Security System equipment
was sent to the CRC committee and sees no problem with it
going through. The mystery employee has not turned up since
the number was deactivated.
3. Cindy R. reported
the Laboratory Safety Audits have not all come in
on time. Cindy will get a list of those delinquents for a
couple months previous. Mike Intenzo and Adam Eyring will
review the content of the audits. A new committee of Brian
S., Xavier M., Bob E., and Cindy R., will review and revise
these audits.
4. Bob E. has not
printed any PPE signs.
5. Xavier M. reported
the blood drives are going very well and the next
one will be in September.
6. Testing of the safety
showers will continue to take place on a monthly frequency.
Bob D. stated that ANSI recommends a weekly testing however
there are no regulations.
7. Bob E reported
the Fire Dept. Inspection Follow-up is still ongoing.
He will check with individual supervisors on their corrective
actions by the end of the summer or as each HVAC section
is completed.
8. Xavier M. reported
that all but one of the new employees has had a safety orientation
and he has the last one scheduled for today. The last
class for CPR-AED-First Aid is scheduled for July
18th with at least 27 employees taking the training. The fire
extinguisher training class is not scheduled yet because
there is no contract in place. Bob D. requested that Xavier
M. scheduled the class with Harold Richardson.
9. Xavier M. reported
Joe W. has not gotten back to him about testing the Emergency
Lights. Bob D. has contacted Joe W. to get the regulations
concerning the CLF building in hopes that more emergency
lighting can be installed. Xavier M. will purchase the rechargeable
flashlights for the windowless areas of the CLF as soon as
the new Fisher contract is in place. The sound level on the
fire tower exit doors still need to be lowered.

that the annual hood validation has not been scheduled
yet. He will have to coordinate the project with the schedule

the fire drill, held June 20 th, went very well. The
time of evacuation was about 1min. & 20 sec., and there
were no stragglers. The units need to stay together so the
supervisor can account for each employee. The next one will
be in Sept. or Oct.
12. The ERT had
a meeting on June 19th. The membership has changed since
the last meeting and the bulletin board will be updated.
The 11 members reviewed positions and assignments, with more
regular training and lab walk thru's planned for the future.
13. Sandy G. reported
the PA speaker and first aid kit problem in the CRU unit
has been resolved.
14. Xavier M. reported

changeover. It will restart on 7/19 and continue as a year
round program with 51 employees participating. Any x-ray
bills sent to employees from the baseline program should
be forwarded to Bob D. of the safety office.

New Business
1. Bob
D. stated that the RTK training would
be scheduled at the end of July. Someone
from the safety office will be out to do
the training. All employees are eligible
to have the training. Xavier M. will coordinate
scheduling the CLF employees.
2. Jack G. stated
the grievance against management over the unsafe job site
is not going to happen at this time. Dogs loose in the
field confront the custodians as they clean it causing
unsafe working conditions. Action recommended by the union
is for the custodians to not work out there until the problem
is corrected. Gloria P. stated, gates will be installed and
the field would be closed off while it is being cleaned.
The Health and Police departments are suppose to enforce
the laws against loose dogs. The possibility of a job action
might help get some response from them.
3. Adam E. stated
his concern that Capri pants should be prohibited in the
lab because the lower part of the leg is exposed. The safety
office considered the issue and decided they were OK though.
4. Bob E. stated
the Wellness and Yoga classes are still meeting even
thought the contracts for the instructors have not been renewed.
Bob D. stated that Harold Richardson in the Safety Office
is handling the contracts and Brian S. will call him about
their progress.
5. Brian S. stated
that the safety shower/eyewash in room 158 would be modified
to allow better access to testing. Also, the information
on the mixing valve will be produced.
6. Brian S. also
noted that the loading dock doors have been open unattended
more now with the HVAC rebuild in progress. Gloria P. will
pass on the need for better security to the contractors and
Bob E. will mention this to Geoff Brock.
7. Brian S. mentioned
the summary provided by the Health Fair provider detailing
some of the interesting facts and findings of those participating
in the fair. (Only 13% of the participants overdrink and
smoke.) The emphasis is to encourage employees to adopt
a healthy lifestyle, increasing longevity to about 6 1/2
years.
8. Xavier M. requested
the safety committee meeting start at 9:30 am, which was
adopted by the entire committee.
9. Mike Intenzo
