8.        Brian S. reported the custodial staff is testing the safety showers monthly. The temperatures of the safety showers are taken quarterly and a report can be found in the safety folder on the P drive. Bob E is looking for more volunteers to pick up unfilled duties. Kathy B. asked for a list of the duties of former safety officer, John Yust, which was then provided to her.
9.        Bob E. gave the committee a follow-up report on the Fire Department Inspection of the CLF on 2/25/2002. (See NB 2 of the 2/27/2002 meeting). He sent a list of items around to the supervisors that need correcting and still needs to follow-up with them. After his re-inspection he will meet with Geoff B. Gloria P. and Brian S. will label all the fire extinguishers in the CLF. They are to be identified with a label located on the wall and on the extinguisher.
10.        Bill R. reported that the electrical cord lying on the floor in room 157, identified as a tripping hazard, is going to be moved. A temporary fix has been to lay a well-marked plank over the cord until the oven is relocated.

New Business

1.        The Health Fair, is scheduled for April 24th. Brian S. reported there is a signup sheet in the lunchroom. The fair will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a series of tests given by health care professionals. The Safety office provides this benefit through Continuum, a health management consultant.
2.        Xavier M. will be contacting Harold Richardson at the Safety Office to arrange for the AED/CPR training.
3.        Xavier M. reported he is looking into getting an oxygen meter for the MEL people. Bob D. stated that the Safety Office orders the meters for the department then distributes them to both the field units and 29th street. Xavier is also interested in a permanent wall mounted oxygen monitor for those areas of the CLF that have storage for compressed gas tanks and cylinders.
4.        Brian S. will distribute the most recent safety shoemobile list by email and post it on the Safety Bulletin Board. He also reported on a problem with the current list of safety shoes deemed acceptable by Procurement versus the new lists offered by the vendor. Bob D. is aware of the problem and is working on updating the PWD approved list.
5.        Brian S. forwarded a request (from a female employee), to have windows installed on the women's bathroom doors. The windows would minimize potential entry/exit accidents. The idea was not well received and not approved by the committee.
6.        Brian S. asked if the emergency exit lights are checked monthly as required by the monthly laboratory safety checklist. Apparently they have not been checked since John Y. has left. Xavier M. will ask with 29th street to help.
7.        Brian S. asked when the annual hood validation would be performed since the last one expired in March 2002. Apparently there is no meter available to do the testing.
